THE FOREST RESTORATION AREA

The research of this line is aimed at the restoration of degraded woodlands by setting up communities plant with high fire response capacity and drought-resistant. There are many objectives:

•    Defining the scientific bases for adaption and mitigation actions to face climate change in Spain. Identifying environmental conditions that determine the short- and long-term success of forest restoration actions performed under Mediterranean conditions.

•    Developing new techniques and protocols to prioritise actions according to cost-benefit and efficiency criteria. Developing quality control and certification criteria.

•    Promoting adaptable forest management to improve productivity from a multifunctional perspective (economic, fire prevention, carbon fixation, biodiversity).

•    Favouring knowledge exchange, diffusing the best prevention practices and fighting desertification.
